Butt Boy’s Revenge

It’s the DRM vs. MP3 Showdown at Amazon.com. Time to pull up a comfy chair and watch… the MP3 Lunatics just love a good fight!

Doug Morris is leading the posse of “not to be outdone copyright owners.” This Major Label Gang is trying to knock Steve Jobs – the technology hardware guru – down a peg or two. It’s the music biz’s version of the O.K. Corral. Sony/BMG join EMI, UMG, and WMG at the Amazon online store (note: these music companies have become monograms of their former selves).

At Amazon, the Major Label Gang sell DRM-free MP3s, intended to hobble Steve Jobs’ iTunes store. Poor under-gunned Steve Jobs only has a limited number of DRM-free MP3s available to defend himself from the onslaught. All the while, Doug Morris has put the iTunes store on a month-to-month basis for entire UMG catalogue. Wow. That’s a big bomb.

Will Doug Morris pull all of UMG’s music from Steve Jobs’ store? Or is Doug proving to Steve that he’s nobody’s Butt Boy?

The MP3 Lunatics wonder who will prevail. And for that matter, who cares? One question remains… is the always-clever Doug Morris exposing Steve Jobs for the DRM freak he’s become?

Yo, Steve Jobs… if you really want to lose DRM, now is as good a time as any.
