Gravediggers for DRM

The MP3 Lunatics think Eric Nicoli, Doug Morris, Thomas Hesse, and Edgar Bronfman should man the shovels. They were all champions of DRM, and now they have reversed their firmly entrenched positions and leaped aboard the MP3 bandwagon in 2007.

It’s tough to think of these guys as fellow Lunatics. These new MP3 converts are a new breed of Lunatics, the corporate types, driven by a severe downturn of their companies’ revenues.

The MP3 Lunatics think those four industry giants are the perfect candidates to bury this warped policy. Didn’t they promote this foolishness for years?

Who’s going to perform the last rites for DRM?

How about Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, or Jeff Bezos? These tech powerhouses won’t miss encrypted music. Actually, rumor has it these technology giants wrote DRM’s eulogy years ago. They were just waiting for that dreaded corporate illness – lack of public acceptance – to kill DRM.

Who’s going to drive a stake thru DRM’s heart?

You can count on the MP3 Lunatics for that. Having witnessed this folly since 1999, the Lunatics would gladly drive a silver stake thru this draconian policy to make sure it doesn’t rear its ugly head again.

So now that DRM is dead, what’s next?

The MP3 Lunatics recommend something really crazy like… STOP suing your fans! Or… call off the RIAA dogs! The Lunatics think this would go a long way in restoring faith between music fans and music companies.

The MP3 Lunatics can’t help but wonder about DRM as 2007 comes to an end. Why did DRM survive so long? What would the music landscape look like now, if DRM had died in 2001 instead of 2007?
