Amway in the Asylum?

Some interesting developments occurred while the Lunatics were eating turkey:

  • The Lunatics want to be among the first to congratulate Sony/BMG for abandoning DRM and having the wisdom to begin selling MP3s. When this is officially announced, it will make WMG the only major recording company that is not selling MP3s. Is this why WMG’s stock is at an all time low?
  • As the Lunatics previously predicted, many new online music stores have evolved. How novel that Amway – the pyramid scheme marketing firm – has entered the music sales field with an investment in the Fanista website. Kind of a wack social network, the Fanista website will reward people if their friends buy something. They’re calling it “Common Interest Commerce.” The Lunatics wonder if this is just the tip of the iceberg in the ever-expanding music sales landscape. The Lunatics figure if a coffee shop like Starbucks can sell music why not Amway? How about the Auto Club selling CDs? Or 7/11? How about school districts? They could sure use the money.
