Why Sue Your Fans?
The MP3 Lunatics wonder: how effective is the policy of suing your fan base?
Have music sales increased since these lawsuits have been initiated?
We all know the answer… No!
The Recording Industry Association of America (who’s largest members ARE NOT American-owned companies) obviously haven’t learned much from the last five years of declining sales. They’re at it again.
The RIAA claims these lawsuits are designed to educate people about the risks of illegal downloading. But us MP3 Lunatics want to warn the RIAA about the dangers of taking the public for granted.
As we’ve seen, the general public seems to be surviving quite well without buying as much RIAA music. And with the downsizing at all the major labels, the support for new artists is at an all time low. This can’t be good for the major record companies. As us Lunatics have mentioned before, new music is the lifeblood of any record company’s success.
Given all of the above, The MP3 Lunatics don’t think the effort wasted on these lawsuits is worth it.
And we think the RIAA knows it.
Is there a conspiracy afoot to eliminate the CD as a viable format? The MP3 Lunatics witnessed the elimination of the LP as a viable format. The RIAA companies would like to only sell downloads. The dream of a music sale without inventory-related worries is the salvation for these music behemouths.
So why not eliminate the CD? And while you’re at it, why not create an economic disaster? What a clever way to influence the impending copyright law changes!
Are the MP3 Lunatics paranoid? Or did you hear it here first?
