The Lunatics Ponder A New DRM Nightmare
I’ve been having DRM wonderings…
If Steve Jobs is in favor of DRM-free digital music, the MP3 Lunatics want to know the answers to the following:
- If someone bought a AAC file at the ITunes store and wanted to get the same file as an MP3 at the ITunes Store, would they have to buy the same song again?
- Could they pay the difference in cost and upgrade an old AAC file to the newly announced MP3 format?
- Is there a way to un-DRM an ITunes AAC file? Or is this going to become a 4track/8track scenario in the digital domain?
- Will I have to re-buy the song again to get a copy I can use with any MP3 device?
The MP3 Lunatics feel the longer this file confusion goes on, the more fragmented the digital music marketplace will become.
Hey, music companies: grow up!
CDs are so popular because they are open source. CDs are portable, and they work in any player. The next format has to be this appealing or music sales are going to remain in the toilet.
