Our Pledge

What We’ve Done

In 1999, a group of music-loving MP3 Lunatics created MP3 Jackpot, their first virtual asylum on the World Wide Web. In the true spirit of Online Music Fun, The MP3 Lunatics have posted the download location and a brief description of one free legal MP3 file each day ever since. So far, The MP3 Lunatics have done this for the over 2,050 free and legal MP3s.

As time passed, more MP3 Lunatics appeared, and they were welcomed into the newly built virtual asylum, MP3 4U. These new Lunatics blended with the existing Lunatics and became Sources for the group’s expanding network of MP3 lunacy. These Sources search the Internet and post links to any MP3s they feel are worthy enough to add to their own playlists. The MP3 4U website extended the Lunatics’ novel approach of discovering music through people, and its Sources produce a steady daily flow of quality music. Since its launch, MP3 4U has become one of the most popular MP3 Blog sites on the Internet, and currently contains over 5,000 human-filtered MP3 files.

As MP3 Jackpot and MP3 4U continued to grow, The MP3 Lunatics noticed that the Web was lacking truly dignified free MP3 hosting for artists. To fill this void, they built another tier in their growing Music Lover’s Playground: muzic. The current muzic beta website features unlimited “Free MP3 Hosting That Doesn’t Suck.” There’s no spam, no scams, no ugly ads, and no annoying ranking system. A songcard at muzic is a permanent home for an artist’s MP3, and any participating artist may post as many original works as their heart desires.

Our Pyramid Of Songcards

The building blocks of our Music Lovers Playground are Songcards. The MP3 Lunatics think music on the Internet is best organized one song at a time. The MP3 Lunatics embraced the Pyramid design when they saw the need for their playground to have a climbing structure in order to give shape to Online Music Fun. Put simply, the different levels of the Pyramid filter the millions of MP3 files down to manageable numbers for listeners.

The MP3 Lunatics created the Songcard as the logical starting point for any music fan. The Songcard gives the fan a clue about the song and allows them to decide whether to listen or not. If they like what they hear, the Songcard leads the fan to both the artist’s presence on the Internet, and to people who appreciate similar music. The Songcard also contains a brief description about the MP3 file it is linked to.

The Pyramid design allows for an ever changing view of new MP3s and the people who add them. The MP3 Committee posts one hot MP3 as the daily MP3 Jackpot winner. MP3 4U Sources create Songcards and playlists of MP3s they discover on the Internet. The Pyramid is constantly growing. To make sure everyone can be included in their playground, The MP3 Lunatics offer unlimited free MP3 hosting at muzic. Now any MP3 creator or fan can post MP3s and create Songcards for free.

Our Music Lover’s Playground will be complete only when there is a Songcard for every song that has been converted to the MP3 format.
